I don't see any reason to convert to TSO unless you're planning to run the post-endgame with this character, and I get the impression you're not.

#BEATING DUNGEON CRAWL STONE SOUP FREE#
So! Does anybody with more experience with Crawl want to point out any holes in my plan or make any suggestions for what to do afterward? If I've left out any vital information, feel free to ask.ĭoesn't look like a bad character at all, from what I see. After all of that, possibly hit the Slime Pits if I have corruption resistance before I go for Zot all of my important gear is artifacts, so I should be pretty safe as long as I go in prepared. Any scrolls of acquirement I find are going toward armor, because my gloves, cap, boots, and shield are all pretty crappy I already have good resists from jewelry, my big problem is not enough fingers to wear them on, so I'd like to shore my resists up with my other slots. Trog is starting to be kind of worthless, since he probably won't give me a better weapon and Berserk is starting to be too risky to use.

At some point before clearing Crypt, convert to Shining One and get my best weapon holy-branded when I can. My current near-term plan: Clear the Dungeon down to my level, clear the Elven Halls 1-4, clear Vault 8, clear Crypt. It's just not as good for general use as my current amulet (Conservation, +5 AC, +4 EV). There's a shop selling a rMut artifact amulet I can grab. I can also pick up mutation resistance when necessary.

Resist Negative +++ should be nice if I go for the Crypt. The scrolls of armor could really shore up my resistance issues if I can get a gold dragon hide.īetween my artifact platemail and my shield, I can stand toe-to-toe with every monster that's not doing significant elemental damage that I've met so far, including storm/frost giants and titans. I have at least one non-artifact eveningstar and my demon whip, which could both be okay candidates for pumping up if I find nothing better. I've been holding them all, waiting to get something I think is worth taking for the long haul. I have a giant pile of scrolls of weapon enchantment, and also a few scrolls of armor enchantment. My strengths: I have more-or-less permanent poison and electricity resistance and my magic resist is through the roof, doubly so when I use Trog's Hand. I'm also led to believe that Eos is just kinda a meh weapon for the endgame, but I haven't found anything better. Notably, I'm lacking mutation resistance, my fire resistance sucks, and I can only get to Resist Negative +++ by eschewing all my fire and cold resistance. I can get one level of fire resistance, two levels of cold resistance, three levels of negative resistance, preserve abilities, conservation, and warding, but those are all on jewelry, so I have to juggle a lot of stuff to get them and have to pick and choose. My weaknesses: My resistances are kinda blah. I'm using shields, and while I haven't found a really good one yet, I'm reluctant to ditch them for two-handed weapons, because I haven't found any particularly good two-handers and I've had good luck with shield-using melee fighters. My primary weapons are maces, and while Trog has been showering me with artifact maces, I don't have much useful to show for it my best weapon is Eos (+11/+11 lightning-branded artifact morningstar with see invis and -Tele), and I have a +0/+3 venom-branded demon whip that does better damage under some circumstances. I've got the Swamp and Snake Pit runes, and I've cleared Vault down to level 7. My current character is a Minotaur Berserker in the high teens.
#BEATING DUNGEON CRAWL STONE SOUP TRIAL#
I'd like to avoid that this time around! Since it takes several hours of playing to get to that point, it's a little hard to learn through trial and error, so I thought I'd see if anybody on RPG.net could offer me advice.

I've gotten close a few times, but I usually die in the late teens. I've been playing Stone Soup on and off for years now, but I've never managed to ascend.
